Elam Sports O`ahu – Athletic Training

Athletic Training is recognized by the American Medical Association as an allied health profession, which includes competency in the following:
- Prevention of athletic injuries
- Recognition and evaluation of athletic injuries
- First aid and emergency care and treatment
- Conditioning and reconditioning programs
- Organization and administration of athletic training programs
- Counseling and guidance related to health and fitness for athletes
Health care education for athletes
To become a certified Athletic Trainer, successful completion of a college undergraduate or graduate degree and fulfillment of 1,200-2,000 internship hours is required. Qualified students must then pass the national certification exam administered by the Board of Certification of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association. Certified Athletic Trainers are required to complete 20 hours of continuing education every 3 years to maintain their certification.
Athletic Trainers work primarily in the institutional setting, (professional, collegiate and scholastic) as well as in a clinic setting. Athletic Trainers do not provide assistance with mobile therapy.
